Wherever it is that the spirit of a human being goes, I am certain that in this case there is finally peace at the end of a long struggle.
That Ronald Regan led an amazing and All American life is certainly true.
While he lived to be 93 years old, which is a long time by our current standards is marred by the fact that the last decade and a half was spent in the grips of the ever downward spiral of Alzheimer's' Disease.
I assure you that the current statistics suggest that 25% or more of the people over age 75 are going to develop this dreaded disease. The incidence goes up the older you get. By 85 years the incidence of this disease reaches 50%!!
I also assure you of 2 more things: 1) If you are reading this now no matter how old you are you have a very good chance of getting to that age! If you are under 65 and reading this believe me you'd better by planning to get a lot older than 93, especially if you are putting into practice what I am teaching you!
2) If the population at large does nothing different then they are doing now, we had better be financially and medically prepared to deal with millions of new Alzheimer's' patients!
Now I hope I am 'preaching to the choir' when I say that anti-aging medicine has reached the point where this type of life expectancy should become routine.
Of course the whole goal of this new discipline is to not only extend life in years but extend it in QUALITY!
Can you imagine if it could become routine that our President's could accumulate a lifetime of experience by our current standards and then have the stamina, and drive needed to last through a Presidency or two without missing a beat.
There is no question in my mind that a lot of people will be working on into there 80's 90's and beyond because they want to!
It is too late for President Regan but for many of us the proper doses of anti-oxidants and Omega 3 Fish Oils may keep our brains healthy well over the century mark.
With its contribution to the prevention of arthritis, cancer heart disease and stroke to name a few, those of you who are on my Fish Oil can be reassured that you are doing something RIGHT NOW that will be acknowledged by the medical community of the future as one of the most healthy practices in supplementation that can a person can do.
So don't miss those doses, and do make Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil a LIFETIME supplement.

[Importance of 'health foods', EPA and DHA, for preventive medicine]
[Article in Japanese]

The 'lifestyle-related disease' has been increasing in Japan as the population
advances in age and the food culture becomes westernized. Although prevention,
treatment and therapy for this disease have been attempted using certain kinds
of food and nutritive elements, so-called 'health foods' such as DHA and EPA,
which are mostly contained in fish oil, have been a special focus within these
attempts. There have been many reports regarding the pharmacological functions
and the mechanisms of DHA and EPA. Also, in the past few years, it has become
possible to produce ingestible DHA and EPA oils, oils for chemical compounds,
oils for animal feed, and highly purified DHA and EPA for medical and
pharmaceutical use. EPA ethyl ester has a wide market as a preventive medicine
in Japan. Initially in 1990, this medicine was administered in cases of
arterisclerosis obliterans, using its anti-platelet aggregation ability. Four
years later, in 1994, its effectiveness in triglyceride reduction was
recognized, and its application was extended to cases of hyperlipidemia, which
has remarkably broadened its market. Clinical studies with DHA have shown
improvement in senile dementia (cerebral thrombosis, Alzheimer's disease),
atopic dermatitis, and the ability to focus on moving objects, as well as
control of aggressiveness against others caused by stress, and prevention of
hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and cancer.

BACKGROUND: Dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids improve brain functioning in
animal studies, but there is limited study of whether this type of fat protects
against Alzheimer disease. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether fish consumption and
intake of different types of n-3 fatty acids protect against Alzheimer disease.
DESIGN: Prospective study conducted from 1993 through 2000, of a stratified
random sample from a geographically defined community. Participants were
followed up for an average of 3.9 years for the development of Alzheimer
disease. PATIENTS: A total of 815 residents, aged 65 to 94 years, who were
initially unaffected by Alzheimer disease and completed a dietary questionnaire
on average 2.3 years before clinical evaluation of incident disease. MAIN
OUTCOME MEASURES: Incident Alzheimer disease diagnosed in a structured
neurologic examination by means of standardized criteria. RESULTS: A total of
131 sample participants developed Alzheimer disease. Participants who consumed
fish once per week or more had 60% less risk of Alzheimer disease compared with
those who rarely or never ate fish (relative risk, 0.4; 95% confidence interval,
0.2-0.9) in a model adjusted for age and other risk factors. Total intake of n-3
polyunsaturated fatty acids was associated with reduced risk of Alzheimer
disease, as was intake of docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3). Eicosapentaenoic acid
(20:5n-3) was not associated with Alzheimer disease. The associations remained
unchanged with additional adjustment for intakes of other dietary fats and of
vitamin E and for cardiovascular conditions. CONCLUSION: Dietary intake of n-3
fatty acids and the consumption of fish oil may reduce the risk of incident
Alzheimer disease.

Please note once again that Vitamin E conferred absolutely NO ADDITIONAL BENEFIT! The point being once again that people who spout the 'lipid peroxidation' nonsense and say that Vitamin E is needed to protect people who are taking large doses of fish Oil do not know what they are talking about!

Docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6, n-3), a major n-3 fatty acid of the brain, has been
implicated in restoration and enhancement of memory-related functions. Because
Alzheimer's disease impairs memory, and infusion of amyloid-beta (Abeta) peptide
(1-40) into the rat cerebral ventricle reduces learning ability, we investigated
the effect of dietary pre-administration of docosahexaenoic acid on avoidance
learning ability in Abeta peptide-produced Alzheimer's disease model rats. After
a mini-osmotic pump filled with Abeta peptide or vehicle was implanted in
docosahexaenoic acid-fed and control rats, they were subjected to an active
avoidance task in a shuttle avoidance system apparatus. Pre-administration of
docosahexaenoic acid had a profoundly beneficial effect on the decline in
avoidance learning ability in the Alzheimer's disease model rats, associated
with an increase in the cortico-hippocampal docosahexaenoic acid/arachidonic
acid molar ratio, and a decrease in neuronal apoptotic products. Docosahexaenoic
acid pre-administration furthermore increased cortico-hippocampal reduced
glutathione levels and glutathione reductase activity, and suppressed the
increase in lipid peroxide and reactive oxygen species levels in the cerebral
cortex and hippocampus of the Alzheimer's disease model rats, suggesting an
increase in antioxidative defence. Docosahexaenoic acid is thus a possible
prophylactic means for preventing the learning deficiencies of Alzheimer's
disease.

I can not say exactly where the information came from but in a recent communiqué from a highly respected Nutritionist the following was reported:
' I don't think vitamin E supplementation is of much use for most people...for the general population, not worth it! There doesn't appear to be any benefit for lowering the risk of cancer or heart disease either...I don't think its worth supplementing.'
