Dear Dr Dave, I have been taking your Fish Oil for 2 months now at 6 capsules a
day. In addition to feeling better overall, I noticed a big decrease in my
Migraine headaches. I got Regenerizer about 2 weeks ago and since that time I
haven't had a one. I know Fish Oil is anti-inflammatory so I figured it would
help the headaches, but is the Regenerizer helping too or am I losing my marbles?
I take 2 packs a day.
Either way a hundred thankyous, my life has become a lot more productive and fun
since I don't have to deal with the Migraines. Norma Rosenblum, Medford Oregon
Norma is quite right in her response to the "double whammy" of Fish Oil and
Regenerizer.
Fish oil not only helps with its' anti-inflammatory properties, but also via
serotonin metabolism.
We recently reviewed that in the series on Fish Oil and Depression. Suffice it
to say that serotonin fluxes in the brain are triggers for migraines which are a
vascular headache.
Increased blood flow in the arteries of the scalp and structures surrounding the
brain can cause excruciating headaches and neurological symptoms such as sparkles
in front of the eyes, light and sound sensitivity and even confusion.
The action of serotonin in the gut often leads to nausea and vomiting.
28 million Americans suffer from migraines and they cause untold billions of
dollars in lost work and wages.
The most recent advances in treating them have been a class of drugs called
"triptans". These drugs are effective at breaking a migraine once it happens but
only in the rarest cases are they used for prevention because of their side
effects which include heart attack and chest pain.
Preventative or "Migraine prophylactic" therapies are preferable because they
stop the migraines from happening in the first place, or at least can reduce the
number and severity people get.
What my customer Norma noticed however was above and beyond the natural effects
of my Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil when she added Regenerizer.
It turns out that some migraine headache sufferers have a deficiency in their
cells ability to generate energy, at least during the migraine.
Doses of CoQ10 ranging from 150 mg to 400 mg have shown great promise in reducing
attacks and severity. Studies suggest as much as a 50% reduction in the
frequency.
This makes them a safe natural alternative to prescription drugs and their side
effects.

Open label trial of coenzyme Q10 as a migraine preventive.

The objective was to assess the efficacy of coenzyme Q10 as a preventive
treatment for migraine headaches. Thirty-two patients (26 women, 6 men) with a
history of episodic migraine with or without aura were treated with coenzyme Q10
at a dose of 150 mg per day. Thirty-one of 32 patients completed the study;
61.3% of patients had a greater than 50% reduction in number of days with
migraine headache. The average number of days with migraine during the baseline
period was 7.34 and this decreased to 2.95 after 3 months of therapy, which was
a statistically significant response (P < 0.0001). Mean reduction in migraine
frequency after 1 month of treatment was 13.1% and this increased to 55.3% by
the end of 3 months. Mean migraine attack frequency was 4.85 during the baseline
period and this decreased to 2.81 attacks by the end of the study period, which
was a statistically significant response (P < 0.001). There were no side-effects
noted with coenzyme Q10. From this open label investigation coenzyme Q10 appears
to be a good migraine preventive. Placebo-controlled trials are now necessary to
determine the true efficacy of coenzyme Q10 in migraine prevention.
These findings were corroborated at the American Academy of Neurology's annual
meeting this year in Switzerland.
In addition to the Co Q dose in Regenerizer, the Carnitene, malic acid , and DHEA
also have been shown to increase cellular metabolism supporting their role in the
prevention of this type of migraine
Don't look for this to become widely accepted by doctors however. After all it's
not a prescription drug!
