Increasing Female Sex Drive

Because of the rampage of spam filters I had to leave the "S" word out of the title but it should really be 'Increasing the Female Sex Drive"

"Dr Dave, I have a very sensitive question to ask you and while you may let your readership see it and your response, please do not include any contact info! I love my wife dearly but as she has approached her mid 40's there has been distinct lack of shall we say "interest" on her part. Any question about female sex drive should be answered with caution especially by a man! So here goes.

Many things are present in the female makeup that makes it a very different proposition to deal with the enhancement of a woman's sex drive.

The recent failure of Viagra tm and Pfizer's ultimate abandonment of clinical studies with woman using Viagra points this out.

What is successful for men may not work at all in women.

There are 2 big and many small reasons for this.

First the female brain is "wired" very differently that the male brain.

Women have a higher proportion Of DHEA receptors in their brains making this hormone critical for mood and sex drive in women. Next, women at least before menopause have very rapid cycling of their hormones once every 30 days or so. This accounts for differences in mood, desire and even quality and quantity of orgasms.

Any attempt to improve or enhance the ladies sex drive has to address the issue of brain chemistry.

Again, this is why Viagra failed in women, and why almost every other attempt at female sexual enhancer's has also failed.

Simply put, you can't treat women like men!

Now with our individual above, we have to take estrogens out of the equation.

This really ties our hands because any attempt to balance female hormones has to include this.

Until the damage done by the Woman's Health Initiative Study is undone, there will be many very frightened women out there.

Fortunately DHEA has been shown to be very important in the female sexual response, perhaps the most important hormone for sex drive in women after 40.

Again our drug companies don't like this because they are still trying to sell testosterone patches to women.

Several studies in the past few years however have supported DHEA as more important.
