Winners and losers
Dear Friend,
Once upon a time in the not so distant past, in a land not far away, a man named Bob Dole was hawking a brand new drug called Viagra. In order to improve its impact and legitimize its use and soften the blow to the egos of its users a new category of disease was created. Instead of being called impotent, afflicted men now had E.D., or erectile dysfunction. Now Dole himself never 'fessed up to having the problem. He simply stated that his own case of prostate cancer made him more aware of it because of the known side effects of prostate surgery: impotence, er, excuse me, E.D. Within 2 years the market had three E. D. meds and millions of users. I would venture that half of them at least would use the drug for "recreational" purposes and not in the biblical sense. I had many young healthy men coming in and claiming they had E.D. at least after a few 6 packs on a Friday night. The older guys with younger girlfriends like Hugh Heffner proselytized to this class of drugs. And then came the side effects: death, heart attacks and blindness, sinus congestion, headaches, funky visual colors and back ache to name some.
