Young or old its worth working on your abs!
If you poll 100 people about the body part they'd like to see looking better, abs would always be at or near the top of the list.
Getting great abs is not always easy but it can be done efficiently and fast if you focus on the right things. The good news is that it will translate into all kinds of great health and physique benefits far beyond your abs, such as better posture and less back pain.
You need two things. First, the right kinds of exercise and second, a way to burn fat.
Let's deal with first things first!
Your abs are postural muscles, which means they are good at holding static positions for long periods of time. Give them a dose of motion in a couple of different directions with these exercises.
1) The bicycle: done on your back this pulls one arm to the opposite knee while lifting your torso. Remember your torso is not your neck. Knock out 20 to 30 reps on each side.
2) Crunch on the stability ball (or the floor if you don't have a ball) the standard crunch is still a goodie. Again just make sure to move your shoulders off the ground and don’t bend your neck
3) The plank: get into a pushup position and hold your body straight there with your arms a bit closer (shoulder width) than usual. Hold for 30 seconds to 3 minutes depending on your fitness level.
4) Oblique sweep. Get into a straight leg sitting position and lift your legs without bending your knees. Angel your torso back 15 degrees or more to add some difficulty. Use a weight or a medicine ball and holding your arms straight out arc the weight from your left side to right over your legs. 20 reps.
This should take you not longer than 10 minutes and can be done as part of another workout or a workout in itself.
Ok now how to get rid of the fat. You need to cut calories and boost your metabolism. Exercise helps but if you want to see those abs at the beach this summer take my advice.
