Life happens and it’s sometimes very funny when it’s not meant to be. The titular phrase above came during one of our recent pool interval training sessions. One of our fitness fanatics who just turned 60 and would put a lot of 30 year olds to shame with her athleticism inadvertently blurted that phrase out when asked why one of the other members didn’t seem to be getting quite the heart rate response that was expected.
“Because he is too fit to get it up” came the answer.
Now naturally there was the obligatory pregnant pause and of course the obligatory wise acre comments about little blue pills and Dr. Dave’s Sex Oil but the point bears elucidation.
That is fancy for making something clear in plain English!
Here it is: As your fitness level “gets up” you have to increase something. Either load, or speed or diversity. The first two constitute “power” and are a great place to start.
Here is what a lot of people don’t know. If you keep doing the same workouts over and over again not only will you not get better, you will actually slide backwards a bit to a level below where you peaked.
So again you have to “get it up.” That includes heart rate and blood pressure.
Now some people ask me what about working out longer. Usually this is not a real efficient way to increase your load or intensity but it does qualify to a lesser degree. So if you have the time you can go longer.
But if you want a quickie workout that is really effective, you have to get it up; intensity that is.
So the great argument for varying your workout routines is the way the body adapts to exercise.
I used to push a lot of weights around but as time went on I varied my routine less and less. I pretty much stagnated with the same exercises and progress was painfully slow.
Now I do all sorts of things as I have become much more focused on longevity and health than absolute strength.
I want to remind you that I have had great success in 3 related areas with the combination of fish oil and Regenerizer.
1) Weight loss and decreased body fat
2) Recovery from workouts and building strength
3) The Relief of pain of inflammatory nature such as back pain, post workout soreness and of course Fibromyalgia
I suspect there are many many millions of people out there still on prescription drugs for these problems when they might do just fine on Mother Nature's solutions or at least be able to lower their doses of prescription drugs*
So if any one of those is troubling you, go to the site and order.
