OK, my friend, we need to dive into a few basics.
Your body is an engine or a thermodynamic heat pump. The good news is that it is not very efficient, which means you are wasting heat (and that equates to calories). So anything that generates heat will help you burn calories. Ok, now the rest of the basics.
1) A simple equation: calories in must be less than calories out or you will stay the same or gain weight.
2) Your body does not “know where the calories come from” but it does respond to what you eat. What this means is that you could, if you were able to muster enough will power and control, eat lard and not gain weight. But the hormonal changes would be terrible for your health; you’d be causing massive inflammation in your body and it would become so uncomfortable to exercise, sleep and maintain a proper diet that you would eventually sabotage yourself.
So eat as healthy as you can! Avoid concentrated sugar including breads, pastas and beer to the degree that you can during the holidays and when you do imbibe in any of them, understand that you will be challenged by a slower metabolism, more calorie storage hormones and the desire to eat crappy, high calorie, low nutrition food as a result!

3) If you work out regularly, no matter what you do, crank up the intensity and shorten the time of your workout. 4) Don’t forget to sleep. Sleep is critical for your metabolism and not sleeping will lead to not losing weight.
