Five essential fat loss pointers Tuesday, April 21, 2009
Simple, straight forward, easy to follow and hot of the presses… Here they are:
1) Get your head on straight.
If I could wave my magic wand and get people past all the emotional crap that is in their brains and make weight loss the equivalent of going to work for 3 months or doing homework with their kids or better yet a long vacation, almost everyone would lose weight and be healthier.
Now some would lose more than others and some would be happier with the results but everyone would be healthier.
But the emotions rule in this and may other things so step back, tighten up your wig and make a commitment not to get upset or irritated with things before you even try them.
This will get you half the way there before you even take a step.
2) That one thing.
Most of us have that one thing that is stopping us from success. For some it’s fried food or fast food. For some it’s sodas or ice cream. But find that one thing and get rid of it. Again, that will be 50% of your nutritional battle right there.
3) Expect the unexpected.
Your body has a rhythm and flow that is not always under the control of your will power. If you believe we’ve been on this planet for a while then it’s not too much of a stretch that our creator is smarter than we are since we are still around after all these years. Obey the laws of nature and expect that your body will do what it is meant to do. If you do it right fat loss will ensue but not always the times and pace you may expect.
One thing is for sure most people will tell you that weight loss is not linear even when your behavior is. That means that even though you cut out so many calories a week and burn off so many a week with exercise you may not lose the same amount every week.
Expect it and don’t let it derail you.
4) Less is more.
My friend JC Santana always says, “The best exercise is the one you do!” In other words don’t set lofty goals you can't keep. I tell people who are now doing nothing to start with a 20 minute walk after dinner. Let the dishes sit and do them when you get back. As soon as the fork hits the table for the last time look your partner in the eye and off you both go for your walk.
It will slow down your absorption of dinner, reduce your insulin spike, and cut your appetite later.
And remember you can make all of the above a lot easier with some help from Mother Nature!!!
5) Sleep tight!
You will read more and more about sleep in the future and its effect on weight loss and it won’t always be from me.
