I am going to be brutally honest with you. If you read my statements on the website Dr Dave’s Best, which were written over 7 years ago when I first went public with my intentions, I state clearly that health care is broken and not likely to be fixed by our government.
That was then and 7 years of complete ignorance of the issue by the government has not made anything any better.
I don’t think the government or any party can fix healthcare because we have a conceptual fallacy at the root of our definition of health care.
We have sick care not health care.
And no one knows this better than doctors: we have a multi trillion dollar industry that is based on a lot of marketing dressed as science (thank God there are some real finds, real scientists and real doctors out there).
And now we are trying to call it to a screeching halt. Do you think the heads of Big Pharma are going down without a fight? Do you think the major hospital systems are run by people concerned about your health? Do you think the government will have enough clout to enact painful reforms that deprive people of what they have considered their “rights” for decades?
And if those reforms go through do you think it will do anything but make things worse because the government has historically shown it cannot run anything properly. The example of the Mustang ranch comes to mind. The Reno house of prostitution was reportedly taken over because of tax issues by the government and within a few years was bankrupt.
The government can’t even make money at prostitution and alcohol! Sad, funny or immoral, however you look at this story it begs the question do you really trust the politicians with your future.
The decline of traditional medicine and the rise of “alternative” medicine answers that question clearly: NO!
Let’s look at a few practices that hold no water but illustrate huge flaws in the practice of medicine.
A few years back a few well known doctors/researchers pranced around gleefully in the media saying, “Statin drugs should be in the water supply!” I heard a few of our local cardiologists say the same thing.
Statins have a questionable role in the prevention of heart disease (lancet 2007). They seem to work only in high risk males and 50 such men need to be treated to prevent one heart attack which many not be fatal or even life threatening. At an annual cost of 20 billion a year most of the statins used are for primary prevention in low risk people with high cholesterol. In other words the treatment is completely misapplied and over used.
There are natural alternatives for people with high cholesterol, one of which is Cholesterol Bomb, which combines red yeast rice and plant sterols along with artichoke extract and flush free niacin to “support healthy cholesterol” (remember: I cannot make claims without winding up in jail!).
