Continuing the cold hard facts series today we examine winter weight loss.
A funny thing usually happens to me in the winter that defies explanation. Even though the weather is lousy, overcast and grey I tend to work out more outside than I do in the nice weather. Makes zero sense!
But it does help me get through the winter.
Here are some facts about cold weather exercise you should keep in mind along with some motivational tips on how not to fall victim to holiday eating.
1) Dress for your activity. Long periods of sitting or standing outside require heavy insulation but high levels of activity necessitate a lot less so you can effectively sweat. Wicking clothes are a must for any moderate to intense exercise outside.
2) Don’t forget to hydrate. Just because it’s cold does not mean you can’t dry out and it has just as serious consequences as it does in the summer.
3) Keep spare clothing handy so you can change after your workouts
4) Eat before you go out to your celebration meals and eat healthy!
5) Sample everything but eat less of all of it
Last year I told you I expected to come out of the holidays in pretty much the same shape I went in, which was reasonably lean and fit. I will be making the same prediction this year because my habits are unchanged.
