I am fortunate in many ways. I hope you are too, at least in part because of your knowing me and hopefully enjoying the information. But I must confess, occasionally I find myself a wee bit isolated. It’s not that I don’t have a ton of human contact.
I do.
And it’s not that I don’t get around this planet.
I do, regularly circling it over a 2 to3 year period to find the best for Dr. Dave’s Best, which includes you since you are reading this!
But the other day I was absolutely shocked by the time I spent at a large airport waiting for connection.
I had a little time to kill and I decided to do a little "people watching" near the gate check-in kiosk.
I eventually stopped looking at people and started looking at their guts!
One after another, especially the middle-aged men, presented with protruding bellies over the belt line.
The concomitant loss of muscle mass was also evident, especially from arms, legs and derrière.
My friend, what I was seeing was an epidemic.
An epidemic of metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and of course obesity.
The sad part is that physically these folks really DID look alike. The only distinguishing factor was the size of their guts and how much they overlapped the belt line.
If I were to create a human template all I would have had to do was leave room for a change in belly size and not much else! When you see something over and over again in people you are looking at a combination of physiology, biology and teleology.
Hence the epidemic. People really are getting their bodies “programmed’ to have all kinds of metabolic and endocrine derangements.
As usual the government and the alphabet agencies that support it are way behind.
So are doctors, medicine and science. Suffering from “analysis paralysis” they offer watered down weak recommendations that fit no one instead of everyone.
But there is a bit of hope.
Our president elect allowed a group of children to dig up part of the south lawn of the White House and plant a vegetable garden, the first allowed there since WWII.
Yes, it’s a publicity move – yes, it was well planned but at least there is attempt at setting an example at healthy eating. In this case, green leafies and probably some berries as well!
Here is a simple formula that works for me.
I always keep a large supply of organic fruits, veggies and berries in my fridge.
As I am preparing my meals I simply snack on them. So with each meal, including breakfast, I get carrots, celery, beans, broccoli and berries, raw and in nice doses before each meal. Then if free-range beef or chicken turns out to be the main meal (very simple to prepare) I have already gotten my good stuff and tend to eat a lot less due to the fiber.
Now I do other things as well.
I take my Monster Multi, my fish oil, of course and Cardio and Immune Boosters with my meals.
I often get asked why, if I eat so well, do I need to take anything?
Well, two reasons.
1) You are probably aware that nutrient poor soils are the norm now and we may not be getting as much out of our food as before.
2) I believe in “super living”. That means I think, act and perform at a level that is far above regular subsistence. Simply put, while I love to eat berries, I can get a quart's worth of antioxidants from 4 Cardio Boosters or even from our wonderful Xocai line of chocolates.
