Fish Oil Psoriasis and other skin disorders

Dear Friend,

Last week I spoke about several common skin disorders like blepharitis, rosacea, and acne.

Today I will review the data on Omega 3 Fish Oil's and psoriasis, seborrhea, and eczema.

Dr Dave, Please hurry up and restock your fish oil. I had stopped it to see if my cholesterol was affected badly by it and it wasn't. Ever since I stopped it I started getting my old aches and pains back again and my skin is a mess. My psoriasis has flared once again and the overall body rash that no one including my dermatologist could diagnose is back again. I want to stay on it! I just feel much better on it. I want to order a case so please let me know when you have some back in! John G. Grant Boston, Mass.

The skin disorders we are talking about today have in common inflammation and a distorted response by the body's immune system.

Many of these responses a re anchored in childhood which is why I recommend supplementing children, and even mothers who are pregnant and especially breast feeding.

Many of you have noticed that on the fish oil bottle it states to consult your doctor when using fish oil in pregnancy and if you've had cancer.

This is a disclaimer and I have to stick by it because I cannot examine most of you personally and therefore cannot legally give you the same advice I would give my own patients.

Any of you mom's and Dad's out there who have "atopic" children would certainly do well to consult your doc's and see if you can't get your kids on my Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil.

The atopic child is one who is highly allergic, often has asthma and may grow in to adult disorders of the skin like eczema.

John from the above email is now on 10 capsules a day and having a great response, both from the arthritis standpoint and the skin standpoint.

He has also reported that those annoying little cracks in the skin at the end of the fingers that some of us who live in cold climes get are no longer forming.

While they are not life threatening, they sure are painful!

I suspect that if John had gotten some Fish Oil early in childhood, he may not have the skin problems he does now.

Fortunately he was able to get off the steroid skin creams he was forced to take fro so many years to quiet his psoriasis.

For those of you who do not suffer from this type of skin disorder, you can always look forward to few wrinkles and better skin tone on my Fish Oil! Best, Doc
