Yesterday we talked a bit about visual health again by describing the effects of Fish Oil and especially the DHA component of it in keeping your eyes free of macular degeneration and cataracts.
I mentioned that EPA is often thought of more for 'systemic effects' and DHA for brain effects and I gave the rationale for using both together rather than trying to separate them as some supplement companies would have you do.
After reading about all of the anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer benefits of my Fish Oil it should not surprise you that it may have a role in preventing oral cancers as well.

In this particular study a human cancer cell line (not a mouse or dog or other mammal!) was directly inhibited by the addition of EPA which is 1Ž2 of the fish oil combination, the other being DHA.
Fish Oil also appears to help prevent gum disease by its anti-inflammatory effect.
Dr Dave, I recently visited my dentist for some routine mouth care. I have a history of gingivitis. Both of us (my dentist and me) were surprised to see that the health of my gums has gotten a lot better. This human experimental gingivitis study demonstrated that n-3 PUFA (fish oil) induced a tendency towards reduced inflammation of the gums.
