Fish Oil and the Heart RevisitedDear Friend,Dr. Dave , one thing I would like discussed is a little more break down of the heart , and the fish oil . I have been diagnosed with a micro valve defect. I have a bicuspid valve instead of a tricuspid . I was born with only two leaflets instead of three . been a bodybuilder for fifteen years .well the doc has stop my lifting .this is very tough . I know the fish oil cant fix a valve , but could you give me any benefits of this product with some one who may be has other heart problems that arteries. ? thanks for your time . Frankie Before we discuss Frankie's question directly, lets take a look at this heart problem. First, the word "micro" should actually be "Mitral" but it is very easy to understand how they could sound very much alike. In actuality I think Frankie is talking about the Aortic valve having 2 leaflets instead of 3, because the mitral valve is normally a 2 leaflet valve. A little more anatomy is in order for this problem to make sense. Humans being s have 4 chambers in their hearts, There is a big wall between the right side and the left side of the heart. This effectively separates the left and right hearts so they behave like 2 different organs. The right heart receives blood from the body in general and pumps it through the lungs. The lungs are generally a low pressure circulation so compared to the left heart the right side is weak and thinned muscled. People have for odd reasons had to live without the right heart and can do so without too much trouble although they are likely to be tired all the time and not be able to do much. The left side of the heart (for our purposes we will call it the left heart) is a different story altogether! It is responsible for all of the rest of the blood that is pumped to all of the rest of the body, Many heart attacks involve only the left heart. I have certainly seen right sided hearted attacks. In general they are not life threatening and can be easily handled. Once the person heals from them, they are usually fine. Again the left heart is another story. Since the entire body is dependent on this part of the heart, damage here can be devastating. Some of the things that can result if the person survives are congestive (fluid in the lungs) heart failure, irregular heart beats, and a weakness in the heart wall that is called an "aneurysm". If this forms and ruptures, it is certain death. Ok now to Frankie's valve problem. The hearts 4 chambers are separated by 4 valves. 3 of these 4 valves are made of 3 leaflets. To best imagine what a valve looks like, imagine a Frisbee cut into 2 or 3 pieces like a pie. Each piece looks like a piece of pie. Frankie's problem is called "congenital (meaning he was born with it) Aortic (that is the valve that separates the top and bottom left parts of the heart) stenosis (meaning narrowing) or for our purposes CAS.
CAS happens at birth but usually doesn't show up as a problem until the early 40's because of the body's resiliency, and the need for the organism to stay alive ling enough to reproduce. If you've ever thought about human evolution then think about this. Just about every person that lives past age 40 is outliving the need to be alive from the standpoint of Mother Nature! When the CAS becomes critical (or the blockage gets bad) then the left heart has a hard time pumping blood past it, and many of the same things that happen with a left sided heart attack occur. That is: congestive heart failure, increase in heart attacks, passing out, irregular heart beats and if left untreated death. There is no single drug that can benefit the heart as much as Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil based on the research I have done. It can reduce heart attacks, (both left and right sided) improve the heart's response to hormones and nerve tissue input, improves the heart's energy dynamics (as does Regenerizer) improves blood flow in and to the heart and improves oxygen delivery, reduces irregular heart beats involving both the top and bottom parts of the heart. It also lowers blood pressure! To maximize your heart health order now. In terms of helping this gentleman, fish Oil would lessen the likelihood of heart attack from this valve problem by reducing blood pressure, improving blood flow and of course as we have recently seen, reduce the likelihood of irregular heart rhythms. The reason he has been told to stop weight lifting is because weight lifting temporarily raises the resistance that the heart "sees" and has to pump against Ultimately, this man will need a surgical correction of this valve problem because as he ages the valve will start to clog or close. This will ultimately make it impossible for his (left) heart to pump blood to the rest of the body. It is however clear that Fish Oil may delay many or all of these bad events and give him a chance to search out the best cardiac surgeon he can find! At this point there is a procedure called the "Ross" procedure where this valve can be fixed without cracking open the chest as you would do in bypass surgery. Frankie, I hope this information helps you and I know my Fish Oil will! Best, ![]() Dave Woynarowski, M.D., CPT The Nation's #1 Anti-Aging Physician P.S.
