Low carb, low fat, low calorie confusion
Dear Friend,
I continue to get tons of emails asking me what diet is the best. In spite of the proliferation of diets named after people and places the principles of a healthy diet and lifestyle change far less than you might think. I have some suggestions for you that are easy and fast fixes. As we move through autumn I want to help you make this one the best ever. There is absolutely no reason it can’t be. It’s no wonder people are confused when it comes to diet. So many voices, so much screaming and yelling about what’s best and what’s not. Above it all I want to remind you that in spite of the fragile appearance of some of the most famous health gurus out there, human beings are remarkably adaptable and hardy as a whole. There are huge variations in diet world wide. High starch polished rice may be popular in one long-lived area. Yogurt in another. And in still another whale blubber and fish almost exclusively. Speaking of fish, the one thing almost every long-lived culture from Okinawa to Iceland has in common is a high intake of Omega 3 fish oils. When you filter out all the background noise that is what you see. Not flax, not krill, not yucca, not noni, not Yngwie Mangosteen (actually I guess it’s Malmsteen) but fish oil plain and simple. So make sure you get a good intake (6 caps a day) and take it every day. I can tell you this much, low fat diets would be a lot more effective at disease prevention and health promotion if the type of fat were the most important thing instead of the quantity as it is now. Here is an email that gets right to the heart of the confusion.
