Crumbled, Crushed, Beaten, Bruised, but NOT Broken!!!

Overcoming physical disabilities with the assistance of the proper supplements.

Dear Friend,

I find this a very inspiring time of the year. There is so much going on in the world of human achievement.

Right now sports are front and center, and as a sometime athlete I find I have renewed interest and energy to pursue my chosen sports.

You see heroes are being made as I speak to you.

This past weekend the city of Austin Texas officially welcomed home their and our hero, Lance Armstrong.

True that Lance did something no one else has ever done by winning 6 straight Tour de France races.

But far more impressive is that he did it after nearly dying from cancer.

And, he has the scars from his brain surgery to prove it.

I do not see too many people who live very long after brain surgery for metastatic cancer, let alone go one to become the world's top cyclist.

Then we have the Olympics, where once again heroes are being made and Cinderella stories coming true.

But I want to share with you a much more personal story about someone who in his own quiet way is also a hero.

While he is not an Olympian, he has an Olympic sized heart.

Here is what he wrote to me:

Thanks for all your help over the year. It means a lot.

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.

He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.

My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.

We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE. You are special- Don't EVER forget it."

Ed was my very first Karate teacher.

Afflicted with M.S. at age 14 he has marched on inexorably fighting the battles of an ever worsening disease.

Along the way he has developed a weakness in his heart, and severe arthritis in his spine.

Now Ed is not a complainer, never has been.

I can remember his patience and thoroughness as an instructor, and his true love of the art.

It was hard not to be excited about what you were learning when you were around Ed.

I can distinctly remember when Ed attained East Coast rankings in Black Belt for his fighting skills.

He cracked the top 5 even though he had M.S.

One time in particular he had to fight Everett Eddy who was known as the "Monster Man".

Eddy was ranked #1 in both point and full contact tournaments at the time.

Ed was 19 and about 170lbs. Eddy 25, a world champion weighed 250lbs.

Everyone gave Ed credit for even getting into the ring with this guy.

Though he did not win that day, he fought hard and he fought well and a lot of people stood up and took notice.

We were all very proud of Ed that day. I still am!

Over the years as each new hardship was heaped on an ever heavier plate, Ed maintained his positive poised attitude, and his dignity.

He also practices his beloved art everyday even though some days his legs do not want to hold him.

The closest thing to a complaint Ed ever said to me was when he came in with canes on both sides to support himself…,"Getting old is a B****"

Has Ed given up?

Nope never, and he never will.

HE will continue to fight the good fight and look for new medicines and treatments to help himself.

In the face of distant odds Ed will persevere and achieve more than many of us will, in spite of his disabilities.

Ed, I will continue to do everything I can to help you my old friend. Like gravity, you can count on it!
