How to live long and prosper without selling your soul to the devilThe story is as old as mankind whether it's Faust or the portrait of Dorian Gray or Ponce de Leon the Spanish explorer. The bottom line is you don't get to live forever without selling your soul to the devil and then your life is forever a living hell. Strong words, stronger message and one that still resonates with many people today, even doctors. Our own former leading edge fountain of youth alternative medicine guru, Andrew Weil has pointed to anti-aging docs with distain in his recent Time article. In my opinion old Andy has sold out and gone mainstream. The day after he panned anti-aging docs I got a press release for his newest anti-aging supplements called Plantidote. Hmmm. I thought you said anti-aging was crap. The bottom line, like it or not, is that science is beginning to understand more and more about the aging process and of course there is bound to be all kinds of controversy from hell fire and brimstone all the way to way out quackery. Today I am going to lay it out for you. It's not all that complex and certainly the average Dr. Dave's Best reader is way above average anyway and can handle the truth easily. 1) Our bodies are like the heater in your house. The more heat generated the harder they have to work and the more waste products they generate. Under normal circumstances they can handle the load but, feed them crap expose them to stress, pollution, sleep deprivation and all manner of unnatural insults that they have had no time to figure out a way to defend against and you have a recipe for illness, infirmity and premature aging. Notice I didn't say premature death. 2) People who were in their prime in the 50's 60's and mid 70's were alive in my opinion at a time before real modern medicine existed and they are still living longer than their forebears, just not healthier. So the faster you live and the more you use up your bodies resources the more you age. 3) Please understand that being fat, not exercising, exercising hard and not talking a potent antioxidant, drinking, smoking, sleep deprivation and probably high stress levels pretty much lead to the same place. You get old faster and less gracefully. If you want a simple process that is at the root of it all, it’s inflammation. | ||
